The 2012 Spring Parade of Homes Showcases the Best in New Homes
by
Home Builders Association
Every spring for 50 years, the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City presents the Spring Parade of Homes. Builders do something extraordinary by rolling out welcome mats throughout the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. Home buyers and consumers flock to tour new homes to see the latest in new home design and innovations. The Spring Parade of Homes (previously the Spring Homes Tour) has given buyers a wealth of housing choices to find the home of their dreams since 1962.
The 2012 Spring Parade of Homes, April 14-29, is the perfect place for home buyers looking to turn that dream into a reality with 287 homes that are open throughout the metropolitan area representing a wealth of housing choices. John Moffitt Sr., who started Moffitt Development Company, was one of the original builder/developers who entered homes on the tour when it started in 1962. In 2012, John Moffitt Jr. is still showing homes to keep up the family tradition. ‘The last 50 years has seen many builders come and go – small/big, cheap/expensive, all types. Today very few firms are still here, but, the HBA remains,’ remarked Moffitt, past President of the HBA /CEO of Coldwell Banker – John Moffitt & Associates ‘As a builder, realtor and developer, our company has seen from the start that the HBA has supported both the consumers and the builder/developer industry. Just look at the changes in home design, construction and technology. Many of these changes are the direct result of the HBA interacting with it builder members, industry suppliers and the ultimate homeowner, to create the homes we all enjoy today. The Kansas City HBA was one of the first in the country to start the Parade of Homes. What a great benefit to the public! Hundreds of new homes open daily for 2 full weeks for the sole purpose of educating consumers on the new home marketplace. This city is truly fortunate to have such a great organization.’ Homes are open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free. Free Parade Guide books are available at all Parade homes while supplies last. Event information and an online Parade search are available at www.KCParadeofHomes.org. Homes can be viewed by price, location, builder, floor plan, subdivision and more as well as visit builder web sites. Along with the Parade of Homes, the HBA conducts an awards contest called the American Dream Awards, the premier honor for new home construction in the Kansas City region. Builders’ entries are rigorously judged on architectural design, construction techniques, craftsmanship and selection of materials. Homes competed in categories based on price range. Teams comprising seventeen industry professionals from across the United States canvassed the Kansas City region April 13 and 14 to evaluate the entries and awards were given at a special event, April 18. Twenty-two Grand Award winners were selected, and twenty-four First Runner-Up honors were awarded. A complete listing of winners can be viewed online at www kcparadeofhomes com.
